The beauty of pocket camcorders is in their simplicity. So far this came at expense of video quality. But with the new generation of HD-capable pocket camcorders this restriction is no longer valid. There are several models on the market already. Having compared the specs, prices and what is in the box I am most impressed with the new Vado HD from Creative. Coming at the same price as all the other pocket HD camcorders (from Flip or Kodak for example) this one includes 8 GB of memory, all the cables (HDMI and USB extension) and is capable of recording in HD+ quality. Sure for someone with real movie making ambitions there are better cameras out there - with great deal of controls. But for occasional and easy filming the pocket camcorders seem to be a very good option. The new Vado HD looks particularily interesting in this department. What got me hooked? The videos I saw on vimeo.
All were apparently taken with this tiny toy-like camcorder and left me impressed big time.
So far I only saw this going at $199 direct from Creative, but hope I can get it even cheaper elswhere by Xmas.
